Balaton Sound Music Festival: A Tale of Lost Luggage
Last month I ventured two hours outside of Budapest for Balaton Sound Music Festival, one of Europe’s largest outdoor electronic music festivals. The Balaton lineup caught my eye when I was googling festivals in Europe during the month of July. The ten stages provided a wide variety of DJ’s over the span of five days. The selling acts for me were Afrojack, Kygo, Kungs and Galantis.
I took a flight from Paris to Budapest the morning of the festival on a tight time schedule. I was waiting at baggage collection and DRAMATIC PAUSE my bag never appeared. After coming to the realization that my bag was lost, I called my travel insurance and they explained they would give me up to $100 to buy necessities only.
All I needed was an outfit for Balaton. Unfortunately, there was not a huge selection of fashion stores in this isolated, small town in Hungary. I began to panic. Then, I saw the glorious red illuminated letters H&M. This was the perfect find as the store fit my budget and clothing needs. In a hurry, I sorted through the store to find a tie dye bathing suit top with a matching head band, jean shorts, a velvet tank top (on sale) and canvas shoes that came to a total of 18,000 HUF, converting to 70 US Dollars.
Time was moving fast.
Lost luggage, found clothes, checked into the hostel and boarded the shuttle bus to the festival. Luckily, Balaton Sound provided the transportation from my hostel to the fest. The stress of losing my bags was immediately lifted when I was serenaded by the festival goers on our bus ride over. The excited people and mesmerizing decor got me hyped and the DJs carried my vibes until 4am when Carnage ended the night.
Yes, I wore the same outfit four days in a row but my festival fam didn’t care. Balaton Sound Music Festival exceeded my expectations and I would recommend this to any traveler hunting adventure.
