“Offstage” with DESTRUCTO

Disco Donnie Presents’ interview series “Offstage” returns with the exciting announcement of a fresh feature artist. Music industry legend Gary Richards, also known by his moniker Destructo, talks about his careers as a DJ/producer, music executive and promoter. The CEO of HARD Events sheds light on the process of producing major music festivals, in addition to providing both his bird’s eye and first person view on being a great DJ.
“Elements that make a good festival – I think the sight’s number one always, the people and the music, organization. As far as a good DJ set, I mean I think you just have to be able to read the crowd and know how to take them on a trip, you know take them on a journey – keep it fresh and interesting. I always try to be different and unique and never play the same set twice ever.”
The music executive/DJ/producer/promoter touches on the importance of responsibility. He addresses the temptations, like partying and drinking, that can cloud one’s judgement when working in music. Destructo also confesses his initial desire to want to party 24/7, but learned that in order to succeed as a music professional, that kind of lifestyle will make it impossible.
“In the beginning I was like ‘yeah I’m going to DJ let’s party.’ But being a traveling DJ and really doing it seriously, like, it’s almost impossible to party all the time. You’ll die. You can’t do it. I have so many DJ gigs now that if I party all the time I’ll just be a raging alcoholic, because you know you’ve got to get on that plane and go. You know, you can’t just pass out.”
“Offstage“ is a new Disco Donnie Presents video series that chats with iconic DJs behind-the-scenes at festivals about their backgrounds, rise to stardom, and life on the road. The series is meant to inspire the next generation of aspiring artists, highlighting patterns and ideas that have brought their favorite acts to the pinnacles of success within their respective genres. Each new episode will be posted weekly on DDP’s YouTube channel & Facebook.
